Thrive On Purpose Podcast

Strategies to Regain Momentum, Clarity, and Confidence

Welcome back to another episode of Thriving on Purpose. I’m your host, Rosemary, and today I’m diving into a topic that hits close to home for many female entrepreneurs: feeling stuck. This discussion will uncover why this happens and offer empowering strategies to help you break free from the rut.

Why Do We Feel Stuck?

Feeling stuck can mean different things to different people, but it often feels like you’re trapped in quicksand. You’re making efforts to move forward, but it seems like for every two steps forward, you take one, or even two, steps back. It’s demoralizing and frustrating, and it can feel like you’re spinning your wheels without making meaningful progress.

Common Signs of Feeling Stuck

When we talk about feeling stuck, it can show up in various ways, including:

  • Indecision and Procrastination: Struggling to make decisions, big or small, and delaying tasks because you’re unsure of the best next step.
  • Lack of Motivation: Losing enthusiasm for daily activities that once excited you, making it hard to find the drive to tackle them.
  • Monotony and Routine: Feeling like your days are blending into one another, repeating the same tasks without any variation or excitement.
  • General Unhappiness: Despite your efforts, feeling that something is missing and knowing deep down that you’re capable of more.

If these experiences resonate with you, it’s time to take action. Here’s how to start regaining your momentum and clarity.

Why Are You Feeling Stuck?

Firstly, understanding why you’re feeling stuck is crucial. Here are some common reasons:

  • Lack of Clarity: Not knowing what your goals are or how to achieve them. This uncertainty can make you feel lost.
  • Fear of Failure: Avoiding taking action for fear of making the wrong decision or worrying about others’ opinions if you don’t succeed.
  • Perfectionism: Striving for unattainable standards, leading to paralysis and inaction because nothing feels “good enough.”
  • Lack of Support: Feeling isolated and without a robust support network can amplify feelings of being stuck.
  • Limiting Beliefs: Deep-seated doubts about your abilities and worthiness that hold you back from pursuing your goals.

Strategies to Break Free from Feeling Stuck

1. Reflect on Your Core Values

Take the time to reconnect with what truly matters to you. Your core values are your driving force and help guide your actions and decisions. Identify your top ten values, narrow them down to five, and then focus on your top three. One of my core values is freedom, and reflecting this in my life and business keeps me grounded and aligned.

2. Create a Vision

Visualize your core values and goals by creating a vision board. Fill it with images, quotes, and symbols that inspire you and keep your objectives front and center. Think of it as your roadmap—something you can look at every day to remind yourself of what you’re striving for. If you haven’t made one yet, put it on your to-do list and make the time for this powerful exercise.

3. Practice Mindfulness

Mindfulness involves being present and fully aware of what’s happening in and around you. It can be done through meditation, deep breathing exercises, or journaling. These practices help you stay grounded and bring more clarity into your life. Being mindful allows you to become more intentional with your actions, helping you to move forward with confidence.

How my client got unstuck

Let me share the story of a client of mine, Sarah. When we first started working together, she felt stuck in her job—a position that drained her spirit and left her unfulfilled. Bureaucracy and lack of progression opportunities left her feeling trapped for five years. Sarah knew she was meant for more but struggled to take the first step.

Together, we worked on small, actionable steps. She started dedicating a few hours a week to her side hustle, and this bit of progress helped her gain confidence and momentum. Within a year, Sarah was able to transition to a part-time job that paid more than her previous full-time role, giving her more time to focus on her business. That decision transformed her life and business trajectory.

Identifying the Stuck vs. Rough Patch

It’s essential to distinguish between feeling stuck and going through a rough patch. If you’re experiencing these signs daily for a few months, you’re likely stuck and need to take action. However, if it’s sporadic or due to a specific life event, you might just be facing a temporary rough patch. Recognizing this distinction will help you address your situation more effectively.

More Strategies to Regain Momentum

  1. Set Achievable Goals: Break down your larger goals into smaller, manageable tasks. This approach can help make your objectives feel less overwhelming, providing you with clear, actionable steps to move forward. Celebrate each small victory along the way to keep your motivation high.
  2. Reframe Your Mindset: Practice shifting your mindset from one of limitation to one of possibility. Replace negative self-talk and limiting beliefs with positive affirmations and empowering thoughts. Acknowledge your achievements and focus on your growth.
  3. Take Care of Yourself: Prioritize self-care. When you’re feeling stuck, your mental and physical health can take a hit. Ensure you’re getting enough rest, eating well, exercising, and engaging in activities that bring you joy and relaxation. A well-cared-for body and mind function better and are more resilient to obstacles.
