What You’ll Learn Today

In today’s episode, we’ll explore:

  • What it means to feel disconnected from your true self during transitions.
  • The impact of significant life changes on your sense of identity.
  • Practical strategies to navigate these transitions and rediscover your true self.
  • How the Self-Love Retreat in Ghana can support you on this journey.

My own experience with transitioning

Before we get into the meat of the episode, let me share a bit of my own story. I’ve gone through multiple significant transitions in my life. From moving countries, becoming a first-time mom, outgrowing my corporate job, to making bold shifts in my business. Each of these transitions was challenging, but they also taught me valuable lessons about resilience, self-discovery, and the importance of aligning my life with my true values.

One of the biggest shifts was deciding to take a sabbatical and later choosing to homeschool my kids, which required me to rethink my entire approach to life and work. These experiences have deeply shaped who I am today and the work I do with my clients.

What Feeling Disconnected Looks Like

Feeling disconnected from your true self can manifest in various ways. You might feel like you’re mourning your old identity, struggling to embrace your new role. There might be resentment towards the changes, whether it’s resenting your kids for the demands they place on you or feeling trapped in relationships and friendships that no longer serve you. You may find yourself pivoting your business or career, feeling lost and uncertain about the future. It’s like being in a fog, where everything feels heavy and unclear.

Why You Might Feel This Way

There are several reasons why you might feel disconnected during times of transition. Firstly, there’s the comfort zone factor. We all have our routines and familiarities, and stepping out of these can be incredibly daunting. Secondly, the sheer magnitude of change can cause overwhelm. When everything around you is shifting, it can be hard to find solid ground. Lastly, external pressures play a huge role. Society, family, and friends all have expectations, and these can cloud your judgment, making it hard to focus on what you truly want.

Why It’s Hard to Overcome

Overcoming these feelings isn’t easy. Here’s why:

  1. Comfort Zones: It’s hard to let go of what’s familiar, even if it no longer serves you.
  2. Overwhelm: The enormity of the change can lead to paralysis, making it difficult to take the first step.
  3. External Pressures: Expectations from others can make you second-guess your choices and priorities.
  4. Fear of the Unknown: Not knowing what lies ahead can make you hesitant to take risks and make necessary changes.

What Will Be Better or Possible When They Solve This Problem

Imagine waking up with a renewed sense of purpose and excitement, eager to tackle the day ahead. No more feeling disconnected from who you are, no more second-guessing your every move. Instead, you’re filled with excitement and anticipation for what’s to come. Solving this problem is like a breath of fresh air, filling you with energy and possibility. When you break free from feeling disconnected, everything feels lighter, brighter, and more achievable. You’re no longer held back by self-doubt or uncertainty. Instead, you’re empowered to take bold action and pursue your dreams confidently.

How I helped my client through her own transition

Let me share a story about one of my clients, Nadia. Nadia was a new mother who felt like she had lost touch with her old self. She loved her baby but resented the loss of freedom and the changes in her identity. She also felt trapped in a job that no longer fulfilled her but wasn’t ready to dive into her own business full-time.

We worked together to identify her core values, set clear goals, and develop a step-by-step plan. Nadia started by setting aside time each week for self-care and reflection. She gradually built a side business that aligned with her passions. Over time, she found a balance that allowed her to be present as a mother while pursuing her professional dreams. Now, she wakes up every morning feeling grateful for the life she has created. She’s living authentically and with purpose.

Strategies to Overcome Feeling Disconnected

Reflect on Core Values

  • Take time to reflect on what truly matters to you. Consider your core values and how they align with your personal and professional goals.
  • Example: Journaling or engaging in deep conversations with trusted friends or mentors can help you gain clarity on what you stand for and what you want to achieve.

Set New Goals

  • Redefine what success looks like for you now. Create short-term and long-term goals that align with your current values and aspirations.
  • Example: Instead of vague goals like “I want to be successful,” set specific, measurable goals like “I want to increase my revenue by 20% in the next six months by launching a new product line.”

Seek Support and Community

  • Surround yourself with like-minded individuals who can support you. Join local groups, online communities, or find a mentor who understands your journey.
  • Example: Join a mastermind group or find a business coach who can provide guidance and accountability.
